Joe Torre and Sandy Koufax together teamed up on Saturday February 27th to raise nearly $750,000 for Joe and Ali Torre’s Safe At Home Foundation. The Los Angeles Times’ T.J. Simers served as the moderator while Torre and Koufax shared stories and had the crowd in awe for the entire evening. AEG hosted the event at the Nokia Theatre and a full house of 7,000 attended a once in a lifetime event that was televised live by FOX Sports West. The crowd was diverse with athletes such as Don Newcombe, Tommy Davis, Sweet Lou Johnson and current Dodgers Clayton Kershaw, coaches Don Mattingly and Rick Honeycutt, who were joined by former Dodger Owner Peter O’Malley and current Angels owner Arte Moreno. You could also see Hollywood stars with the likes of Billy Crystal, Ron Howard, Penny and Garry Marshall, Jon Lovitiz just to name a few. Torre and Koufax spoke about a friendship that went back to the early 60’s, along with numerous great baseball stories. Simers asked Koufax where he has been all these years, to the delight of the crowd Koufax replied “I went home”. Many rumors were put to rest or cleared about up about Sandy’s personal life. It was a great event, it raised a lot of money for a good cause and the crowd went home happy.
