Innovative New Venture Will Provide Creative Haven
To New and Heritage Label Artists
While Lending Production, Mixing and Songwriting Expertise to Select Clients

LOS ANGELES, November 8, 2010 ― Grammy Award winners Val Garay and John Kosh have partnered with attorney George Woolverton to launch Red Red Records, it was announced today.  Garay is a music-industry legend for his production and engineering work with James Taylor, Elton John, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Rondstadt, Queensryche, Sarah Brightman and Kim Carnes, among others; John Kosh, former creative director for the Beatles’ Apple Records, is the man behind the iconic covers for the Beatles Abbey Road, the Who’s Who’s Next the Eagles’ Hotel California and the Grammy winning Linda Ronstadt’s Simple Dreams.  Kosh has also worked with Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, John Lennon, The Rolling Stones, Jimmy Buffett and, through his Ten Worlds Productions, comedian/author Lewis Black.

“Red Red Records will have a roster of proprietary artists, but other musicians will also be able to benefit from our expertise in production, mixing, songwriting, creative direction and other aspects of making and marketing music,” explained Garay.  This label/production-company hybrid takes its inspiration from another pioneering source.  “Our model is the original Asylum Records [cofounded in 1971 by David Geffen],” Garay continued.  “That label was built on artistic freedom, which is our guiding principle, too.”

Added Woolverton, who is CEO of Red Red Records: “In addition to what we can provide to our existing roster, we’ll offer a unique opportunity in today’s marketplace by making the talents of Val Garay and John Kosh available to emerging artists.  Access to these creative executives is a significant advantage in creating the best record possible.  Val and Kosh can offer the kind of guidance that was previously available only to an artist signed to a major label.  The company will also supply the marketing services required to support the finished product.  Our goal is to encourage creative freedom but also ensure that all aspects of the release are maximized.”

“I’m thrilled to be part of Red Red Records,” said Kosh, who serves as the label’s Creative Director.  “Music has always moved me, from the Royal Opera to rock and roll, and inspired me to create some rather famous – sometimes infamous – icons.  Combining the talent of much-vaunted producer Val Garay with my visual touch, plus the business savvy of George Woolverton, will make Red Red unstoppable.”

Red Red Records’ first release, In the Blink of an Eye, the Garay-produced, Kosh art-directed debut album from Los Angeles pop singer and songwriter Katrina, is expected in the first quarter of 2011.

Asked about the new label’s genesis, Garay said: “George [Woolverton] and I are tremendously simpatico in our ideas about artistic sensibility, and we both felt, given the state of the music industry, that it was time to explore a new model.”  “Simpatico” also describes Garay’s kinship with Kosh: “I’ve worked with Kosh many times over the years – he’s the only person I’d trust to help us brand Red Red Records.”

“We’ve recruited top talent in every area we need to cover, both creative and commercial,” Garay affirmed.  “And we’re all committed to the basic belief that the artist comes first.”
